So you just got married to your dream hunk and thinking of that romantic honeymoon or at least been
thinking about it for years and you have Maldives, Seychelles or Mauritius in mind. The only thing they all
have in common is ‘expensive island’. Probably you’ve already figured this out but what if I told you can
have your dream getaway in Langkawi. You can have the same experience in Langkawi’s finest resorts as
if you were in the Indian Ocean. Best part is the cost is a lot cheaper, A LOT cheaper. Why be part of
another country’s tourism statistics when you can invest into Malaysia instead. This is dedicated for those
who’d like to experience the luxury side of Langkawi, so if you got money to blow, this is just for you.
There are plenty of hotels and resorts in Langkawi for those seeking for a swanky stay, ranging from
international to local chains. But if you’re like me, I’d like to be pampered once in a while so my personal
choice would be The St. Regis as its got class written all over with a capital C. It is ranked #3 on Tripadvisor
for Best Value of 18 Couple Hotels in Langkawi. The price ranges approximately from RM 1.5K-RM 3.5K
per night and most of the packages come with a personal butler, told you it was luxurious. So long as you
have the paper, the hotel is pretty much yours until you check out. This property also has Honeymoon
packages depending on availability beginning with airport transfer, welcome beverage, one 60-minute
couple spa, daily breakfast, a couple dinner at Kayuputi Restaurant and a departure gift. Of course other
requests such as bed of roses, bottle of champagne upon arrival or romantic beach dining for 2 are
available, I mean come on, if I’m paying 1K per night I’d request for anything humanely possible. This
would be my ideal lodging destination as my idea of a romantic beach holiday would be using the hotel
services to the fullest and not having to lift a finger. If you’re watching your weight or you have a certain
strict diet, St. Regis provides special diet menus, how exclusive is that! Feeling outdoorsy? St. Regis has
your back. Get your adrenaline pumping with outdoor activities within the compound such as boating,
canoeing and hiking. For the ladies (some men too), if you’re looking to further your tranquil experience,
I suggest making a booking at the spa department as they provide massages (full body, neck, hand, foot),
salon, facial treatments, Hammam, manicure & pedicure and body wrap services. For more detailed
information on St. Regis’ honeymoon packages, visit marriot.com
If you love birds are into something more traditional and local, my next suggestion would be Kunang
Kunang Heritage Villa. It is ranked #7 on Tripadvisor for Best Value of 19 Couple Hotels in Langkawi. This
property is the complete opposite compared to St. Regis as it is a boutique resort with 20 individually
unique vintage wooden Malay houses, scavenged from different states in Malaysia with the oldest house
being over 2 centuries old. Whoever thought of this, my thanks for preserving the Malay heritage. The
exterior and interior of each villa incorporates the old Malay tradition as well as a touch of modern
features. For our international visitors who love culture, I would highly recommend staying here. The price
ranges approximately from RM 500-RM 1K per night depending on season. Kunang-kunang may not have
all the personal services like the St. Regis does, but it is beautiful and definitely unique compared to most
of its competition. As this is only a boutique hotel, the amenities are limited; 1 restaurant, swimming pool,
bar and spa. But if you feel like playing tourist, Grab services is available to take you around, best part is
most tourist landmarks are less than 15 km away! Despite Kunang-Kunang’s lacking in amenities, it has
managed to bag the Travellers’ Choice award on Tripadvisor, goes to show that big things come in small
packages or as we say in Malay “kecil-kecil cili padi”. So if you’d like to bask in the presence of pure nature,
tranquility and culture, Kunang-Kunang is the place to be.
